Academy

DURATION
This is a one year programme.

INTRODUCTION
This course runs as part of the Redditch United Football Academy which enables both male and female learners to gain a vocational sport qualification alongside full-time football coaching. As part of the football programme learners will be able to receive 6 hours of football coaching from UEFA licenced coaches per week and have the opportunity to take part in regional and national competitions. Redditch United is keen to develop youth players for their senior teams and players will have the opportunity to show they are suitable for this progression. This course takes place at Redditch United’s Trico Stadium which has just had a £900,000 development including a new 3G, changing facilities and student classrooms.

The OCR Level 2 Technical Diploma aims to provide learners with an introduction to a number of roles through an engagement with physical education and sport including teaching, activity leadership and coaching for young people. The qualification provides learners with guidance on further opportunities, including how to contribute to a variety of sports programmes as a sports leader and/or coach. This Level 2 programme provides a great stepping stone to our Level 3 Sports programmes and in addition provides an opportunity to re-sit English and Maths GCSE for those who did not achieve a C grade.

This programme is delivered at Redditch United’s Trico Stadium, however learners may be asked to attend occasional sessions/assessments at Bournville College in Longbridge.

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Functional Skills are a compulsory part of all Sixth Form Centre courses.  Students set targets to improve their skills and gain qualifications, in English, Maths and/or IT. The Functional Skills and levels taken are based on initial assessment and previous GCSE results.  There is a particular emphasis on skills required for Sport. Students build up a folder of evidence from their vocational work and may be required to sit one or more tests.

TEACHING METHODS
Students develop their skills through practical sessions, group and personal activities. The course consists of lessons that are 50% practical and 50% theory in nature. Theory lessons will cover all aspects of criteria listed under ‘content’ above. Initial practical sessions will be coach led, relating the theory to practice. Students will be expected to lead coaching sessions as part of groups, pairs and individually.

Up to 20% of the learning on this course will be delivered online, through flipped learning or online lessons.
