Duo Leave To Further Their Careers ....
It has today been announced that Jerry Gill, the Reds veteran defender, has been offered
the vacant managerial hotseat at Weymouth Football Club. The Terras who currently occupy
the basement spot in the Blue Square South have a real relegation fight on their hands and
have decided to tap into Jerry's vast experience of the game in an effort to haul themselves to
safety. Weymouth Chairman, George Rolls has offered Jerry an 15 month contract keeping
him at the Wessex Stadium till April 2011.
Ken Rae, Reds Chairman, said of Jerry's appointment, 'It is no secret that Jerry has wanted
to make the step into football management when the right opportunity arose and this is
obviously an offer that he felt was too good to turn down and we at Redditch Utd Football
Club would like to take the opportunity to thank Jerry for his services to the club over the
season and to wish him every success with his new career. Jerry is a consumate professional
who knows the game inside out and his experience will certainly help him at Weymouth, he
has a real tough challenge ahead down there but Jerry has never shied away from a challenge
throughout his career as a footballer and I am certain he will do well for them. Jerry goes with
our blessing and best wishes and we have released him with immediate effect in order that he
can link up with his new squad and take charge for Weymouths relegation 6 pointer this
weekend at home to Lewes'
On the same day as Jerry leaves for the south coast, young midfielder Jamie Sheldon has also
been released with immediate effect in order to further his career in Slovenia. Jamie has
scored 6 times in his relatively short spell at the Reds and joined in august 2009 after being
released by Birmingham City. Jamie is signing professional forms for NK Interblock who
play in the Slovenian National League 1 (SNL1) and like Jerry he leaves with the blessing and best
wishes of all those at the club. Gary (Whild) said of Jamie, 'He's done great for us and really developed as a player since the start of the season in what is a very tough league for a young lad to learn his trade, he has a great attitude to the game and has contributed regularly to the team and his goals have been an added bonus. Yet again we have proved as a club that we can bring in good players and help develop them into better players, capable of playing at a much higher level and the record speaks for itself with the likes of Scott Dann (now at Birmingham City), Mark Creighton (now at Oxford Utd), Exodus Geohaghan (now at Peterborough Utd), Aman Verma (now at Leicester City) and James Dance (now at Kettering Town) all listing Redditch Utd Football Club on their C.V. Financially as a club ,at present, we are not in a position to secure the services of such players on a contract but at least we are getting recognition within the game as a club that helps develop players'
