Double Defeat For Redditch .....
Tuesday 11th August 2009
Ilkeston Town 3 vs 2 Redditch United
Redditch, wearing their new all white away kit, kicked off & started the match in
great fashion with an effort tipped wide in the first minute from No.9 Gary Hay
Redditch continued to press and in the 7th min a free kick curled in from the left
was met with a ferocious header from No 6 Liam Francis to put the Reds 1 up
Redditch continued to dominate and on 19 mins the Ilkeston keeper was beaten
but the ball was heroicly cleared off the line by Ilkestons No 2. Tom Bonner.
After a good build up from Ilkeston down the left they forced a corner, which was
swung in with pace and met with a firm header from No.9 Gary Ricketts and
was acrobatically tipped over the bar by Reds keeper Danny Lewis.
Ilkestons Rickets continued to dominate in the air and from yet another LH cross he had a free header, but this time straight into the grateful hands of Danny Lewis.
After 40 mins Ilkeston had a free kick, dead centre, 20 yds out, the Reds set up a 5 man wall but the ball was curled round and was pushed away by an out streched Danny Lewis and Redditch maintained their slender lead at the break.
In the second half Ilkeston came out all guns blazing, cross after cross, attempt after attempt and in 54th min the home side were awarded a penalty after Jordon Street was adjudged to have handled in the box. Amari Morgan Smith stepped up to take and despatched the ball neatly past the despairing dive of Danny Lewis.
After 59 mins following yet more Ilkeston pressure a corner from the right was swung into the box and defender Tom Bonner forced home their second goal of the game.
The pressure continued in similar attacks and the home side further extended their lead as Reds Captain, Asa Charlton, brought down No 9 Gary Ricketts inside the area to give Ilkenson their second penalty of the game which was again tucked away neatly by Amari Morgan Smith.
Following substitutions from both managers, Redditch got one back with a neat build up and some good football with Jack Byrne getting the deflected goal on 88 mins but it was scant consolation as the home side held out to inflict a second successive defeat on the Reds.
