Vital Derby Win Lifts Reds .....
Tuesday 24th November 2009
Solihull Moors 1 vs 2 Redditch United
Redditch United beat Solihull in their Blue Square North encounter at
Damson Park.
Matty Blair was making his Redditch debut after signing from Bedworth.
In atrocious conditions, Redditch were kicking with the wind in the first half.
Solihull goalkeeper Danny Crane found the wind against him and struggled
to cope in the first period.
He gave away the first goal on ten minutes when Jamie Sheldon chased a
through ball from midfield.
Crane came out of his area to clear, but his kick only reached Sheldon who expertly lobbed it back into the top corner.
Four minutes later it was two when Crane again came out of his box to clear but this time got injured in the process.
Jack Byrne quickly controlled the ball and put a low and hard shot into the corner of the empty net.
After 70 minutes, substitue Jozsef Jakab had a shot well save by Solihull keeper Crane.
Jerry Gill shot just over on 83 minutes but Solihull pulled one back from the spot on 86 through Greg Mills after a handball in the area.
This was a comfortable win for Redditch who never looked in too much danger and adapted to the conditions better.
A poor Solihull side had a few late chances but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal to really trouble goalkeeper Danny Lewis.
