Redditch Go Down To Fourth Defeat.....

Tuesday 18th August 2009

Redditch United 1 vs 2 Stafford Rangers

Redditch slipped to their fourth defeat in a row tonight despite taking the lead at

The Valley.

In truth this was a contest low on quality between two teams who will do well to

make the top half of the league this season.

Stafford started the better of the two teams and Mil imediately forced a good block

from goalkeeper Danny Lewis.

Nick Wellecomme also went close but it was Redditch who took the lead on 19 minutes.

Good work from Gary Hay saw him lay the ball off to Jamie Sheldon who made no

mistake from close range.

But it didn't last long, Tom Thorley equalising five minutes later with a cracking free kick.

The rest of the half was scrappy and with few chances, although Hay saw a shot deflected wide on the stroke of half time.

Hay saw a turn and shot saved by substitute goalkeeper Danny Allen just after the break but then Rangers took the lead.

A low cross shot by Jake Moult evaded the defence but may have took a deflection off Liam Francis as it entered the net.

Redditch stepped up a gear after this, Richard Ball seeing a shot flash wide when he should have scored.

Hay, by far Redditch's liveliest player, shot just over on 70 minutes.

Jack Byrne produced a good save by Allen on 75 minutes and a shot by Wellecomme for the visitors was well saved by Lewis.
