Reds Earn Vital Win .....

Tuesday 2nd March 2010

Stafford Rangers 0 vs 1 Reds

Redditch got a crucial, but probably undeserved three points in an uninspiring game at Marston

Road.

A late penalty by Joe Clarke - the only time either goalkeeper was tested - got them the win but

really a 0-0 draw would have been fairer.

It was poor entertainment for the 353 people who braved the cold Tuesday evening, the first shot

not coming until the 14th minute.

That was for Redditch when Jack Byrne - playing his last game before he leaves for Kidderminster

played the ball to new signing Marco Adaggio who headed it back to him, only for the former to volley

wide.

Redditch defender Asa Charlton did well to block a low drive by Warwick Alexander on 24 minutes but that was the extent of the first half action.

The second half saw Stafford on top early on, Levi Reid shooting wide on 55 and Tony Dinning on 58.

Substitute Craig Holland set up Michael Burns on 77 but again the shot was wide.

On 86 minutes the decisive moment came when Michael McGrath was brought down by Reid and Clarke stepped up.

He scored with his first effort but it was ruled some Redditch players had encroached and it had to be retaken.

No matter, as Clarke made no mistake the second time to secure Redditch a vital three points and give them a bit of breathing space at the bottom of the table.
