Reds Thrashed .....

Hinckley Utd 5 vs 1 Redditch United
Redditch United suffered a real setback today after great results in the last two games had given
them high hopes of a win at Hinckley.
The game was notable for the second half kicking off 45 minutes late after Hinckley goalkeeper
Chris McKenzie had gone to hospital with a serious neck injury.
He had fallen awkwardly just on the half time whistle when under pressure from Lucan Spittle
and had to be stretchered off.
Redditch were already 3-1 down by then, and although Hinckley forward Adam Webster had to
go in goal, he was never troubled in the second half.
The home side started like an express train, Richard Laverty and Stuart Giddings heading just over the bar within four minutes.
Those two chances were provided by the impressive Andy Hall, who then played a ball in low for Webster to shoot into the net on five minutes.
Redditch’s best spell came in the 15 minutes after this they played some neat passing football, James Dance going close when he rolled a shot across goal which Mackenzie missed but Gary Hay could not turn it in.
But Reds equalised on 15 minutes when Liam Francis turned and had his shirt pulled, an offence which looked to have happened within the box.
Only a free kick was given but that didn’t matter as Jamie Cooper’s shot from the edge of the box found its way into the net via a deflection off Asa Charlton in the defensive wall.
Jamie Oliver had a scooped shot save before Hinckley took control of the half.
Hall played a lovely ball to the edge of the box for substitute Alex Taylor on 30 minutes and his short cross found the head of Matt West who headed in.
On 39 minutes it was three when a free kick from Connor Franklin was turned in by Lavery but Redditch’s defence should have cleared the danger.
Lavery got his second on 54 minutes, Hall yet again the provider when he put a short cross into the box which was easily converted.
West got his second on 65 when he latched onto a long free kick from Cartwright to tap the ball in and make it 5-1.
It could have been more when Gooding was allowed the freedom of the Redditch penalty box but Danny Lewis saved with his legs.
The closest Redditch came to scoring in the second half was when Cooper neatly turned and his shot hit the bar on 64 minutes.
But Redditch will be disappointed at both the outcome and the scoreline against a no more than average Blue Square North side who effectively played with no goalkeeper for the second half.
