Brown Stars As Red's Hold Firm .....
Saturday 5th September 2009
Redditch United 0 vs 0 Fleetwood Town
Thank you to our match day sponsors:
Reds manager Gary Whild handed starts to new signings Phil Green
and defender Aaron Brown for the match with visitors Fleetwood.
Green had been with Kings Lynn in the Unibond League while Brown,
who made an impressive Red's debut, justifiably earning the sponsors
'Man Of The Match' accolade, can include Reading and Tamworth amongst his former clubs.
Gary Hay and James Dance kept their places in the side with Whild looking for an improved display following the Bank Holiday defeat at Hinckley United.
There were chances at each end early on with Redditch going close inside 25 seconds. Phil Green crossed to the far side of the area where Gary Hay headed on for James Dance whose header was splendidly saved by Danny Hirst in the visitors’ goal.
With 15 minutes gone, Jamie McGuire floated a free-kick into the area for Fleetwood but Steve McNulty directed his header straight at the keeper.
A minute later and Michael Wilde ran on to a through ball but Danny Lewis again saved well.
Midway through the half and Fleetwood winger Sean Clancy turned inside the area and fired a shot just past the post.
Liam Francis looked solid at the back for the Reds but chances were limited at the other end with visiting central defenders Michael Taylor and McNulty winning the aeriel battles.
H-T Reds 0, Fleetwood 0
Redditch started the second half in a similar way to the first, going close within three minutes when James Dance drilled in an effort from the edge of the area only for keeper Hirst to deny him.
Fleetwood swapped striker Adam Warlow for another forward Tom Cahill soon after but chances continued to few and far between.
On 71 minutes, there was a good chance for the visitors when Taylor met Clancy’s corner only for his header to be cleared off the line by Green.
Francis looked to have stolen the points for the Reds late on but he sent his 87th minute header over the bar from Dave Bridgwater's free-kick.
