New boy shines in Red’s away win

Redditch United got a deserved win with a busy performance against the Hertfordshire strugglers.

Walsall loanee Jake Jones was lively throughout the game and put the Reds ahead on 15 minutes when he cut in from the left after being supplied by debutant Tom Berwick and finished neatly.

Four minutes later he was brought down in the box for what looked like a certain penalty but the referee didn’t give anything.

Berwick, who signed from Leamington this week, and Jimmy Deabill went close before half time along with Joel Grandison.

Redditch soaked up some pressure in the early part of the second half but on 76 minutes Deabill was tripped from behind by Matthew McEntegart who was shown a straight red card.

From the resulting free kick, Berwick smashed the ball home.

Former Reds keeper Nick Bussey, playing in the home goal was called upon to make a number of superb saves late on from Deabill and Berwick as Redditch looked to increase the lead.
