A scrappy game saw Redditch just edge the verdict thanks to an excellent goal from Tom Berwick.
Berwick, who recently signed from Leamington, provided a moment of magic on 83 minutes with a jinking run to the edge of the area and a good finish, a rare moment of quality in this match.
Jimmy Deabill almost gave Redditch the lead on just two minutes when he shot over the bar and the same player went round goalkeeper Max Crocombe on 24 but shot into the side netting.
Aaron Woodley shot over for Banbury on 36 when he should have done better and then Redditch’s Joel Grandison saw his corner go directly onto the far post.
Just before the break, Deabill’s header from a Tom Warmer free kick hit the post.
Danny Edmond and Simeon Williams had chances for Banbury in the second half to break the deadlock but Deabill should have given Redditch the lead on 79 when he picked up the ball well in midfield but shot straight at Crocombe.
Berwick was unlucky not to win his side a penalty on 81 minutes when he appeared to be brought down in the area as he tried to go round Crocombe but he picked himself up to score the winner two minutes later.
