The Reds made it 10 out of 10 with today’s 3 vs 0 victory over local rivals Halesowen Town in an often physical encounter with goals from Cameron Jones, Phil Green and Lei Brown ensuring the Reds continued their winning ways.
And the margin would have been more had it not been for a number of fine saves from visiting keeper Paul Evans.
Jones’ opener came midway through the first half as Redditch began to take control of the game. Ryan Howell won possession on halfway and his through ball sent Green clear down the right. His cross to the far post was nearly turned on by Aaron Moses-Garvey and Jones threaded his shot through a crowd of players and into the top right corner.
Evans pulled off the first of his saves on 32 minutes, an excellent point blank effort to divert a deflected Moses-Garvey header over the bar.
But the Halesowen keeper could do little about Redditch’s second just moments later. More good work from Moses-Garvey culminated in him picking out Green in the centre and his well-place drive soared into the roof of the net.
The visitors struggled to find a way through a solid defence where central pair Michael Nottingham and Tesfa Robinson were outstanding. When striker Justin Nisbett did jink his way through, his final shot was wide of the target.
Reds’ skipper Craig Milligan went close with a long-range effort and substitute Lee Osborne was denied by another good save from Evans.
The final exchanges produced a flurry of activity. Halesowen produced their best chance in the 90th minute when Sam Wills’ free-kick forced former Town keeper Dean Coleman into an acrobatic save only for the Reds to grab a third in injury time when the referee spotted a hand ball and Brown drilled home the resulting penalty.
