Two Out Of Two For New Look Reds

Following Saturday’s comfortable victory at Pershore Town, Martin Sockett’s new look Reds made it ‘two out of two’ with a narrow victory over a strong Coleshill Town team away at Pack Meadow on Tuesday evening.

David Blenkinsopp - scorer of the Reds only goal

Debutant DAVID BLENKINSOPP bagged a second half penalty to hand the Reds a hard-fought victory over a Coleshill side that had held Solihull Moors to a draw at the weekend.

The former Gresley, Halesowen Town and Nuneaton striker, who is on trial with Martin Sockett’s side, scored from the spot nine minutes into the second period after being tripped just inside the area.

Redditch dominated the early exchanges with Blenkinsopp having an effort blocked by the home keeper before strike partner Lee Osborne chipped one effort over the bar before finding the side-netting with another.

Keeper Dean Coleman – and second half replacement Jake Bedford – were rarely threatened although Coleshill had more of the ball in the second half prompting some vital challenges from United’s defence.

Substitute Tom Warmer brought fresh impetus to the Redditch midfield while fellow replacement Mark Hands was denied by a fine save in the final minutes as the visitors looked to extend their lead.

Former Walsall youngster Alex Hickman was another to impress the travelling supporters as was fellow triallist Josh O’Grady from Daventry Town.
