Over 70 hopefuls turned out at The Valley Stadium on Tuesday night (June 28th) for the pre-season training/trials night.
With the club looking to assess players from last season, seasons past and also new recruits for both the first team and the Under 21′s team it was testament to the growing reputation of the club and its coaching staff that so many turned up to be put through their paces for just over 2 hours by Martin Sockett (First Team Manager), Paul Smith (Assistant manager), Graham Hyde (First team Coach), Mark Fenemore (Director of Football) and Brian Knight (Under 21′s Manager)
First Team Manager, Martin Sockett, said of the session, “It was a great session and the turnout was tremendous. The technical ability and fitness levels of most of the lads who turned up was very good and to cut the numbers down to a manageable level was a tough call but based on the time we had available and what we saw during the workout we are confident we have a good group returning for the next session and we are looking forward to working with them again over the next couple of weeks before we make our final decision on the squad for next season”
Also in attendance throughout the session was club Chairman, Chris Swan, who was casting a watchful eye over his coaching staff and potential players ahead of his first season at the helm, Chris said of the turnout, “‘I was delighted to see so many new faces wanting to play for Redditch United. 72 good quality candidates reflect the desire players have got to join a progressive Club’ ”
Of those who turned out more than 30 were released after the session as the coaching staff look to reduce the numbers down to the final squad ahead of the new season, the remaining hopefuls were invited back this Thursday (June 30th) for the next session at The Valley Stadium from 7pm.
