Redditch United have today appointed Martin Sockett as their new manager.
After playing more than 500 non-league games for clubs including Bedworth United, Stratford Town, Hinckley Town and VS Rugby, Martin started his coaching career with Daventry Town.
He has subsequently managed and coached at a number of clubs across the Midlands including Brackley Town, Bedworth United and Rushall Olympic.
In May 2010 he was appointed manager at Rugby Town and, on limited resources, steered them to sixth place in the Zamaretto Central Division. It was a record-breaking season for the side, setting a new mark for the longest unbeaten league run in the club’s history. The team’s attacking style also saw them score more goals than any other Rugby side in nearly 20 years.
Martin’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Redditch United with chairman Chris Swan looking to cement the club’s position in the heart of the community.
Chris said: “I am delighted to welcome a manager with such vast experience to the Reds. His impressive CV speaks for itself and I have heard nothing but goo
d reports about his work at Rugby Town.
“Martin has been successful at a number of clubs, particularly in the Zamaretto League, and shares my aspirations for Redditch United – to develop a strong, committed and passionate team, both on and off the field, at the Valley Stadium.
“He will bring discipline and a structure to the playing side and I am looking forward to working with him as we build for the new season.”
Martin will announce his backroom team in due course.
