Redditch United manager Martin Sockett has appointed Paul Smith as his Valley Stadium assistant.
And the 34-year-old, who played more than 250 games for Alvechurch and Studley as a no nonsense defender, is already looking forward to the new season so that he can help bring some passion and pride to the side ahead of the new campaign.

Paul Smith - Red's New Assistant Manager
“I can’t wait for the season to start,” Smith admitted. “I was passionate as a player and I am passionate as a manager.
“In the past there have not been enough Redditch-based players at the club and this is something we are looking to change.
“There are a lot of good players living in the town who want to play for Redditch United and they bring a particular passion to the club.
“There are also plenty of good youngsters around and that means a good future if we can bring them on board.”
Smith’s knowledge of the local area is something that the Reds manager is eager to tap into. But Sockett is also looking to utilise his assistant’s impressive man management skills.
“Paul will bring something different to the table and will be able to work with players on a one-to-one basis,” he explained.
“He will also be going to games, looking at players and opponents, and this will bring a more professional edge to the club.
“I have known him for a number of years – both as a player and as a manager – and I’m looking forward to building on that relationship.”
