Update from the Chairman

On the field it has been a particularly hard four weeks since Mark and Graham took over.  They inherited 27 players, a hard core with ability but the majority not up to the standards of football required at this level and some who were not taking their roles seriously in terms of health and wellbeing and preparation.

The first thing we all did was to identify who would be core to the team going forward.  We started with the announcement that Dean Coleman, Alex Hickman and Tesfa Robinson were happy to go on to a playing contract.  There was then a flurry of arrivals which means there is a very solid goalkeeper in defence and some good players in midfield and upfront.  Saturday’s match proved that the enhanced squad are more than capable of competing at this level.

It is easy for me to say be patient but I genuinely believe Mark and Graham are doing the right thing.  The last two performances I believe show this to be true.  The two of them are working so hard to get things right.

Off the field we are also making good progress, we have started to advertise our function room and already have eight external bookings this month.  November and December bookings are increasing every day.  They are really good facilities at competitive process and if any of our supporters have something to celebrate (anniversary, birthday etc) then you could really hep the Club by holding your event here at the Club.

Our partnership with the NEW College is gathering momentum and we are working with various schools in the area on initiatives such as after schools clubs.

Finally it would be great if as many of you as possible could support a coffee morning Sallie is organising in aid of Cancer Research, in particular Breast Cancer, on the 12th October at 9.30am.  The Club has adopted Cancer Research as its charity of the year and will be working on many events to raise funds.

We are looking forward to the match this Saturday, October 15th, kick off at 3.00pm away at The Meadow against Chesham United.  As you showed on Saturday against Cambridge City getting behind the team really does make a difference.  Let’s all join together to support the Team and wish the lads luck for the upcoming match.
