Latest RUSS (Redditch Utd Soccer School) Information ....

WHAT IS RUSS ?

RUSS or 'Redditch Utd Soccer School' has been set up as part of the Club's ongoing Youth Development policy since the Club's Youth and Junior section achieved the coveted F.A. Charter Standard Community Status, the pinnacle of the F.A's Charter Standard award scheme. The fundamental purpose of RUSS is to act as a recruitment tool for Redditch Utd Youth and Junior teams but also it is their to provide a community service to the residents of Redditch by providing them with introductory opportunities to football. The main difference between RUSS and other so called soccer schools is that we don't just 'play games' day in, day out, we actually work to a syllabus developing skills, educating in diet and nutrition and hopefully encouraging lifelong participation for health and fitness.

Match situations will be included in the syllabus but only as a part of it, we also aim to develop endurance, speed, co-ordination, spacial awareness and ultimately self confidence (a vital ingredient in establishing lifelong participation in such activities)

The RUSS sessions are organised in 5 day blocks for school holidays and for 6 week blocks for on-going weekly participation with week 6 being a tournament. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance, diet and fitness handouts (where appropriate) along with a voucher entitling them to FREE entry (when accompanied by a full paying adult) to a Redditch Utd first team home match of their choice during the season (League games ONLY) They will also receive information on Redditch Utd first team fixtures and a list of contacts for the Club's Youth and Junior team managers and coaches, training days and venues and leagues in which they play.

As RUSS becomes more established we will look at other incentives to encourage continued participation and involvement with our Club.

Initially RUSS will be run during non-curricular time, but we have had discussions with relevant personnel at Redditch Schools Sports Partnership and are looking to add such services within curricular time in schools. This is in the early stages, but the principles laid out above would be followed.

We also see an opportunity for senior school pupils to become involved through coaching opportunities and this is currently being discussed with the relevant County Football Associations.

Similarly, we see our mini tournaments, at the end of courses, being officiated by junior players from the Redditch Utd Youth Teams, wearing Redditch Utd Youth Academy kit, thus establishing some recognition of the organisation within the town.

Overall, you can see that this project is far more than a football service, but is a scheme aimed at building relationships with the local community and giving the people of Redditch the opportunity to become more involved with their local Club.
