Valley Old Boys Return ....

Gary Whild and Micky Moore have continued to strengthen the squad with the addition of 2 more signings, both of whom have played for the Reds in seasons past.

Michael McGrath - a 24 year old, midfield play maker who played for the Reds in season

2005/2006 before joining Kidderminster Harriers in 2006. At the end of the 2006-2007

season he attracted interest from three nameless Championship clubs. He found himself

out of favour at Aggborough and was sent out on loan to Worcester City for one month in

September 2008.

He finally left Aggborough in the January 2009 transfer window after having his contract

cancelled by mutual agreement and then joined Ian Foster's Galway United in mid February.

He joined Sligo Rovers in July but left soon after, only making 2 appearances. Gary Wild said

of Michael,'he is a quality, experienced player who has played at a decent level including

professionally in Ireland in the FAI Premier League for Galway Utd and Sligo Rovers. He is a

very talented attack minded midfielder who can do a job for the team and after his time in Ireland

hopefully we can offer him an opportunity to showcase himself again in the English non-league

scene and at 24 years old he is still young enough to progress and make a name for himself in

the game'

Liam Murray - an experienced defender who played for the Reds in season 2008/2009 before

leaving for Stafford Rangers after that fateful game away at Belper Town in the F.A. Cup. Liam

started his career with Shrewsbury Town where he played regularly for their reserves and then

went on loan to Leigh Genesis at the end on the 2004-05 season. A spell at his home club of

Stafford was followed by a summer 2007 move to Droylsden.

Liam signed for Solihull Moors in May 2009 but then opted to join Kings Lynn without playing a

single game for the Moors. Gary Whild said of Liam, 'We know all about Liam as a player and

he knows all about us as a club and therefore I had no doubts about bringing him back as you

know what you are going to get with him – tough, no-nonsense, totally committed performances

which he proved Saturday having a solid game at the back and netting the equaliser. We

brought him in as cover for the suspended Liam Francis as he is still with Carl Heggs at

Kings Lynn and if it were right we would certainly like to do something a bit more permanetly

but will have to see what develops with the Kings Lynn situation over the next few weeks

Both of the new signings made their debuts in Saturday's 2 vs 2 draw at home to Blyth Spartans with Liam Murray playing the whole match at centre half in place of the suspended Liam Francis and as mentioned above it was he who scored the vital equaliser just 15 mins from the end of the match. Michael McGrath came on as a second half substitute for Jamie Sheldon for the final 20 mins of the game.
