CASTLE BROMWICH A v REDDITCH UTD COLTS
After a long summer break and 3 training sessions the Redditch boys took up the challenge of the 11 a side game again with a friendly against a team from the 1st division of the Central Warwickshire Youth League which looked on paper to be quite a tall order!
The boys started brightly with several efforts going close over the first 15 minutes with Chad going the closest bring a couple of solid saves from the opposition keeper. The last ten minutes of the half saw Castle Bromwich come back into the game and score when the defence failed to push forward and use the offside rule to leave a couple of opposition players standing on the 6 yard line waiting to take the chance that came to them which they duly converted to take a one goal advantage to half time.
The second half started as the first half had finished with Castle Bromwich having the better of the play but the boys held firm until a long wind assisted goal keeper clearance cleared the Redditch back line leaving a Castle Bromwich forward to beat Michael at the far post with a well struck shot. To their credit the Redditch boys stood firm and slowly turned the possession and momentum of the game back in their favour. Chad once again came close on a couple of occasions after some encouraging passing and movement from the rest of the team. Redditch spent the last 10 minutes of the game pressing for the goal that might well have turned the game and sparked a Redditch come back however it wasn’t to be and the final whistle blew with Redditch still on the wrong end of a 2-0 score line.
I feel that the game gave us some positive things to work with as we move toward the league kick off in early September several of the boys at the end expressed they were disappointed with their own performance so it can only be a good sign for the new season as they move to the form we know they can produce. I felt in general both the defence and attack showed that they are beginning to get a grip of the offside rule and at times the team showed an understanding of the need to “pass and move” and use space which we have worked hard on in training in the last couple of weeks.
Special mention must go to debutante Jimmy who acquitted himself well in his first competitive game and showed he is a positive addition to the squad well done and keep it up!
While defeat can never be welcomed I feel the team moved forward today and we are on course to meet the challenges the new season has to offer.
“Impossible is just big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary”
